We present a nonlocal variational image completion technique which admits simultaneous inpainting of multiple structures and textures in a unified framework. The recovery of geometric structures is achieved by using general convolution operators as a measure of behavior within an image. These are combined with a nonlocal exemplar-based approach to exploit the self-similarity of an image in the selected feature domains and to ensure the inpainting of textures. We also introduce an anisotropic… Expand

A Variational Framework for Exemplar-Based Image Inpainting

- Mathematics, Computer Science
- International Journal of Computer Vision

This work proposes a general variational framework for non-local image inPainting, from which important and representative previous inpainting schemes can be derived, in addition to leading to novel ones. Expand

Geometrically Guided Exemplar-Based Inpainting

- Mathematics, Computer Science
- SIAM J. Imaging Sci.
- 2011

This work proposes to first compute a geometric sketch, which is then interpolated and used as a guide for the global reconstruction of a classical exemplar-based method, and uses a new metric between blocks that consists of the sum of the classical ${{\mathrm L}^2}$ metric between any two blocks of the general image plus an ${ mathematicians L}+2 metric between the corresponding blocks in the completed geometric image. Analysis of a Two-Scale Cahn-Hilliard Model for Binary Image Inpainting

- Mathematics, Computer Science
- Multiscale Model. Simul.
- 2007

It is shown via simulations that a dynamic two-step method involving the diffuse interface scale allows us to connect regions across larger inpainting domains and proves for the steady state problem that the isophote directions are matched at the boundary of inPainting regions. Expand

Exemplar-Based Inpainting from a Variational Point of View

The purpose in this paper is to propose well-posed variational models in the continuous domain that can be naturally associated to exemplar-based algorithms and to investigate their ability to reconsider geometry. Expand

Nonlocal Linear Image Regularization and Supervised Segmentation

The steepest descent for minimizing the functional is interpreted as a nonlocal diffusion process, which allows a convenient framework for nonlocal variational minimizations, including variational denoising, Bregman iterations, and the recently proposed inverse scale space. Expand

Cahn--Hilliard Inpainting and a Generalization for Grayvalue Images

- Computer Science, Mathematics

The stationary state of the proposed model is discussed, a generalization for grayvalue images of bounded variation is introduced and subgradients of the total variation functional within the flow are realized, which leads to structure inpainting with smooth curvature of level sets. Expand
